I live in New Albany and have written primarily for my own enjoyment for many years. I may be ready to "come out of the closet" so to speak -- to share my work and offer it for critiquing. When I recently saw Southern Indiana Writers mentioned in the Courier Journal I decided to work up my courage and apply for membership. I can send you samples of my work. I especially love writing about the spiritual insights I gain while riding my horse in the woods. I dream about writing a children's series about true dog rescues I've been involved with that have happy endings. (I'm a retired teacher in love with the purity of children's books -- their message isn't obscured by too many words and the words chosen are matched with lovely images.) I am very inspired by nature and occasionally write simple poetry.

I suppose I am also inspired to join because my aunt, Lorraine Cazin from Minnesota, the member of a writer's group, recently died. I was touched by the number of writers who submitted tributses to www.legacy.com after her passing. Belonging to the group seemed such an important part of their lives and so bonding.

Thanks...looking forward to hearing from you soon.

[...] November 3, 2011 in Writing | No comments Share/Save I’ve attended Magna cum Murder crime writing festival for many of its 17 years, but this was the first year I attended as an Author. My upgrade is thanks to Echelon Press‘ publication of FORCE OF HABIT, which is a crime/sf/farce. I got to be on two panels: Strangers On A Boat, under the moderation of Sarah E. Glenn, about putting a series character in an unfamiliar situation, with special reference to this year’s One Festival-One Book selection, Agatha Christie’s DEATH ON THE NILE; and, under T. Lee Harris‘ gentle guidance, the one on ePublishing. [...]

Gail, your book sounds excellent and much-needed! You're so right--technical writing and non-technical writing are very different animals.

Our group is a couple of hours from Bloomington, so you'll probably want to look for something closer. I know there's a writers' center in Bloomington, or used to be.

Best of luck with the project!

I'm writing a non-fiction book that uncovers the extremely profitable world of non-profit mail fraud that targets older folks. My mom was a target and in the year I monitored her mail she received 823 pieces of mail from 120 different organizations. Mostly trying to make her think she was going to lose her social security for one reson or another.

I have 90% of the research completed and have started to pull it together into chapters, but I need feedback and approach ideas. I have worked as an instructional designer for 25 years, but this writing cannot be technical, so I am pushing the edge of my comfort envelope.

Since I'm back in Bloomington I'd like to explore local writing groups. I was part of a group in Englewood, Florida and their guidance was wonderful.

Would you share your meeting time and venue? Thanks. Gail
